Occasional DC fast charging is safe and designed into every modern EV. Because it delivers high power and generates more heat, relying on it exclusively can accelerate long-term wear. For daily use we recommend slower AC charging at home or work, and saving fast charging for longer trips. Your car's thermal management protects the battery in both cases.

For everyday use, keeping your battery roughly between 20% and 80% is gentlest on it. Charging to 100% is fine before a long journey but is best not left sitting fully charged for days. Most EVs and KUON's smart charging let you set a charge limit so the system stops automatically at your preferred level.

Yes, it's safe to leave your EV plugged in—charging stops automatically once the target is reached. Staying connected also lets smart features work overnight, such as pre-conditioning the cabin or resuming charging when electricity is cheapest. The charger draws no meaningful power once the battery is full.

Cold temperatures temporarily reduce range and can slow charging speeds because the battery charges best when warm. Pre-conditioning (warming the battery while still plugged in) before you drive or fast-charge helps a lot. This is a normal, reversible effect—range returns as temperatures rise.

Modern EV batteries are built to last the life of the car, typically retaining around 80–90% of their capacity after 8 - 10 years of normal use. Most manufacturers back this with a warranty of about 8 years or 160,000 km. Moderate charging habits, as above, help preserve capacity over time.

A home or business battery stores surplus solar energy so you can use it in the evening or during peak-price hours instead of buying from the grid. It also enables peak shaving and can provide backup power. KUON sizes the battery to your consumption profile so you capture as much of your own clean energy as possible.

Yes. Through the KUON portal and app you can see charging sessions, energy delivered, solar yield and battery state in real time. This helps you track performance, spot unusual patterns and optimise when you charge or store energy.

A Charge Point Operator (CPO) owns and manages the physical charging stations—keeping them online, maintained and connected. A Mobility Service Provider (MSP) issues charge cards or apps that let drivers access chargers and handles their billing. KUON supports both roles, so you can operate chargers, offer charge cards, or do both.

Yes. With KUON's charge management you can set your own tariffs and let employees, customers or the public pay to charge. Sessions are metered and billed automatically, and revenue is reconciled to you - turning a charger into a managed source of income rather than just a cost.

Roaming lets drivers charge at stations outside their own provider's network, similar to mobile phone roaming. Because KUON connects to major roaming hubs, your chargers can be made accessible to a wide range of charge cards and apps, and your drivers' KUON cards work at many partner networks across Europe.

Each driver gets an RFID charge card or app to start sessions, while managers use the KUON web portal to monitor usage, set tariffs, manage users and pull reports. It gives you full control and visibility over who charges, where, when and at what cost.

Yes. The portal is built to handle multiple sites, chargers and user groups centrally. You can group chargers by location, assign different tariffs or access rights per group, and view consolidated reporting across your whole estate.

For home chargers linked to KUON, energy used for business charging is measured separately and can be automatically reimbursed to the employee at the correct rate. This removes manual expense claims and gives the employer clear, auditable records.

KUON provides customer support for drivers who have trouble starting a session or need help on the road, as well as operational support for CPOs managing their networks. Remote monitoring lets many issues be diagnosed and resolved without a site visit.

The right charger depends on your vehicle, your electrical connection (single- or three-phase) and how quickly you want to charge. Home users often choose an 11 kW or 22 kW AC charger, while businesses may add multiple points with load balancing. During our design phase we assess your site and recommend the best configuration.

Installation is carried out by qualified, certified electricians. A standard home installation usually takes a few hours, while commercial sites with multiple points, cabling or groundwork take longer. We handle permits and coordination so the process is smooth from survey to switch-on.

No. For safety and warranty reasons, and to comply with local electrical regulations, EV chargers must be installed by a certified electrician. Professional installation also ensures features like load balancing and earthing protection are configured correctly.

Not always. Thanks to dynamic load balancing, many installations work within the existing connection. If your capacity is limited or you're adding several chargers, we'll tell you during the assessment exactly what, if anything, needs upgrading, so there are no surprises.

Yes. KUON charging stations are built to a high ingress-protection standard for reliable outdoor operation in rain, cold and heat. They're designed to be durable and low-maintenance in Dutch and European climates.

Our AC chargers use the standard Type 2 connector used across Europe, available as a socket or a fixed cable. Public and DC solutions support the relevant fast-charging standards. If you have a specific vehicle or connector requirement, we can advise on the right option.

KUON chargers receive software updates remotely to add features and keep them secure, and their status is monitored online so faults can be caught early. Physical maintenance is minimal; when a site visit is needed, it can be scheduled through support.

Yes. Our systems are designed to scale. Additional charging points can usually be added and brought under the same load-balancing group and portal, provided your connection has the managed capacity, something we plan for from the start where expansion is expected.

Charging is billed per kilowatt-hour (kWh) used, based on the tariff set for that charger or network. Your KUON invoice itemises sessions with date, location, energy delivered and cost, giving you a transparent, auditable record for personal or business accounting.

Costs reflect the energy consumed multiplied by the applicable tariff, which may be fixed or a dynamic (hourly) rate, plus any operator fees. Where smart charging is used, sessions can be shifted to cheaper hours, and the invoice shows the actual rates applied.

Yes. KUON separates business and private charging on home and workplace chargers, so employers can reimburse staff accurately and businesses can account for or reclaim eligible costs. This creates clean records that simplify tax and expense handling. For specific tax treatment, consult your accountant, as rules vary by situation.

Accurate, fair billing relies on a calibrated meter. KUON chargers use certified metering so the kWh figures used for invoicing and reimbursement are trustworthy and compliant with metering regulations—important when money changes hands per session.

Incentives for chargers, solar and batteries exist in the Netherlands and change over time, and can include tax benefits for businesses. Because schemes are updated regularly, we can point you to what currently applies during your project, but you should confirm eligibility with the relevant authority or your advisor.

With a dynamic energy contract, the price per kWh changes hourly. Smart charging targets the cheapest, greenest hours, so you typically pay less than charging at a flat rate during peak times. Your invoice reflects the real hourly prices at which energy was drawn.

Smart energy is about making your charger, solar panels, battery and building work together as one intelligent system instead of separate devices. KUON's smart chargers communicate in real time with your energy meter and, where present, your solar inverter and home battery. The system decides when and how fast to charge based on available power, electricity prices and your grid connection, so you get the lowest cost and the least strain on your installation, automatically.

Dynamic load balancing (also called load management) continuously measures how much power your building is using and gives the charger only the capacity that is left over. If your kitchen, heat pump or machinery draws more power, the charger automatically slows down; when demand drops, it speeds back up. This prevents your main fuse from tripping and often lets you add one or more chargers without upgrading your grid connection.

KUON integrates all three into a single energy loop. Surplus solar power is used first to charge your car or fill your battery rather than being exported to the grid at a low price. When the sun isn't shining, stored battery energy or off-peak grid power takes over. The result is that you use as much of your own clean, low-cost energy as possible and rely on the grid only when it makes financial sense.

Yes. The Dutch grid is increasingly congested, and network operators are limiting new or heavier connections in many areas. Smart charging eases this by shifting charging to moments when there is spare grid capacity, typically at night or when local solar is abundant, and by keeping peak demand low through load balancing. This helps you stay within your existing connection and supports a more stable grid for everyone.

Peak shaving means preventing short, expensive spikes in your power demand. Commercial energy contracts often charge based on your highest measured peak (kW), not just total consumption (kWh). By capping the charger's power during busy moments and drawing from a battery or charging later, KUON's system keeps your peak low, which can significantly reduce your capacity-based grid and network charges.

In most cases, yes. Upgrading a grid connection is expensive and, due to congestion, can involve long waiting times. Because our load balancing distributes available capacity intelligently across your chargers and building, many customers can install additional charging points within their current connection. During the design phase we calculate exactly what your existing connection can support before recommending any upgrade.

Dynamic (hourly) tariffs mean the electricity price changes throughout the day. KUON's smart charging can align with these prices, prioritising the cheapest and greenest hours, often overnight or midday when solar is high. You set your departure time and required range, and the system schedules charging to have your car ready while minimising cost.

Bidirectional charging lets a compatible EV send stored energy back to your building (V2H, vehicle-to-home) or the grid (V2G), turning your car into a mobile battery. This can power your home during peak-price hours or provide backup, and in the future may earn revenue by supporting the grid. Availability depends on your vehicle and charger model, contact us to check whether your setup is V2G-ready.

No separate box is usually required. KUON's chargers and portal include the intelligence to measure, balance and schedule energy for you, and they integrate with common meters, inverters and batteries. For larger commercial sites we can add a dedicated Energy Management System (EMS) to coordinate multiple chargers, solar arrays and storage, all monitored through one dashboard.

Smart charging only reduces power when it needs to—for example to protect your connection or to wait for cheaper, greener energy—and always respects the readiness time you set. Under normal conditions your car charges at full available speed. Managing charging around your schedule and avoiding unnecessary peaks is gentle on both your EV battery and your electrical installation.
